Foodie Walking Tour of Lyon

With so many restaurants to choose from and so many bouchons popping up all the time, it’s tough to decide on one or two restaurants that will really give you a broad range of tastes for your palate.

Here’s my suggested walking tour for eating well in Lyon, France.

  1. Start your tour at Halles de Lyon-Paul Bocuse - This is a must-visit for any foodie. It's an indoor market that sells a variety of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and other local specialties. It's named after Paul Bocuse, one of France's most celebrated chefs, who was born and raised in Lyon.

  2. Next, head to Daniel et Denise Créqui - This is a traditional Lyonnaise bistro that serves up classic French dishes, such as quenelles, sausages, and pâté en croûte. The décor is cozy and charming, with checkered tablecloths and vintage posters adorning the walls.

  3. From there, make your way to Victor Augagneur Market - This is a covered market that's been around since the 1930s. It's a great place to pick up fresh produce, flowers, and other local goods. The market also has a number of food stalls where you can grab a quick bite to eat.

  4. After that, head to Chocolats Voisin - This is a gourmet chocolate shop that's been around since 1897. They specialize in handmade chocolates, macarons, and other sweet treats. Be sure to try their signature chocolate truffles!

  5. Next up is Reynon Georges Charcuterie - This is a family-owned charcuterie that's been in business for over 100 years. They make their own sausages, pâtés, and cured meats using traditional methods. Be sure to try their Rosette de Lyon sausage!

  6. From there, make your way to Sève Saint-Antoine Chocolaterie Patisserie - This is another gourmet chocolate shop that's known for their macarons, pastries, and chocolates. The shop is beautifully decorated, with displays of colorful sweets and treats.

  7. Finally, end your tour at La Tour Rose (The Pink Tower) - This is a historic building that dates back to the 16th century. It's located in the heart of Old Lyon and is known for its distinctive pink façade. The location is now called the Food Traboule and houses a mix of Michelin star chefs working together in a food hall style presentation of dishes. Visit to get a great sampling of all the flavors the city has to offer.

This walking tour will give you a taste of Lyon's rich culinary tradition and historic architecture. Be sure to bring your walking shoes and your appetite!
